SADHA at WVU Tech
The CTC at WVU Tech Department of Dental Hygiene
held its pinning and award ceremony on Friday, May 5, 2006. The
ceremony was a celebration for the seniors and recognition of the
accomplishments of those students preparing to begin their second and
final year of dental hygiene education. The evening began with
welcoming remarks from Dr. Beverly Jo Harris, President of the CTC at
WVU Tech. Faculty were introduced and acknowledged. The speaker for
the evening was Heather Gibson, chosen by the second year class to
provide the graduation speech. Heather, a 2000 graduate from the
program, continued her education at WVU where she received her
bachelor’s and master’s degree in dental hygiene. Heather served for
several years as adjunct faculty in the clinic and classroom, and is
entering the WVU School of Dentistry this fall.
Alicia Papas gave remarks for the first year
students and Tina Legg, President of the SADHA spoke for the graduating
class. Following the remarks, first year students received patches,
graduating students received the dental hygiene pin, and awards were
presented to the recipients. Meagan Rexrode was named as Clinician of
the Year and chosen by her peers to receive the Martha K. Shouldis
scholarship. The WVDHA Patient Education Award was presented to Lindsay
Raines. Tina Legg received the WVDHA Leadership Award, Joanie Cushing
was named into Sigma Phi Alpha, Beverly Greer received the Proctor and
Gamble Award of Excellence, and Kayla Doss received the Colgate STAR
Award. Crystal McClaugherty was named recipient of the Hu-Friedy Golden
Scaler Award and named by her peers as the Jackie Hoffman memorial
scholarship award recipient. The ceremony closed with the graduating
student’s slide show and the Dental Hygiene oath.
